On 25 October 2019 the “Happy 1/2 Hour with an Expert in Haemophilia Care” focused on fitness for people with inhibitors. Our guest was strength and conditioning specialist, and chairperson of the Irish Haemophilia Society Mr John Stack

The conversation started with discussing the myth that people with haemophilia and especially with inhibitors should not exercise, because the risk of bleeding is high and so on. Debunking this myth about PWI and exercise was very important to set the starting point for the further discussion and it explained benefits of exercise and active lifestyle.

The conversation then continued about reduced mobility and physical activity, as well as about healthy ageing from the perspective of fitness.

Very good practical advice was given not only to the people with inhibitors, but to us all about good posture and importance of intuitive movement patterns in injury prevention.

Finally, the discussion turned to the caregivers, where it was noted that caregivers tend to neglect themselves. Therefore it is important to make time for themselves, otherwise they risk to get hurt and not be able to actually provide the care they are supposed to provide. Therefore all the discussion topics touched upon in this conversation are equally important to caregivers as to the patients.

We send a million thanks to Mr Stack for the lovely and very educational chat!
